Team: Leadership

Dan Tatar, Founder Dan

Why don’t we spend senior year pleading with corporations’ to donate their hard earned money?  Is anyone interested in rollerblading two thousand miles in the middle of summer? Such ideas could only come from one person…

Dan Tatar, a senior at Union  College was born and raised in upstate New York.  As the founder and head of RollingForAutism, Tatar will be taking on various roles in the project such as delivering comedic performances while others are trying to complete important work, keeping Lauren Foye from being too organized, and head predictor of the Streich/Lannan engagement date.  More notably, Tatar’s leadership, creativity and hard work will play a major role in the overall running, operation, and success of RollingForAutism.

Additionally, after an illustrious 19 year hockey career (the majority of which spent on the bench), Tatar has hung up his ice skates for rollerblades and will be one of RollingForAutism’s skaters.  When asked to comment on Tatar, fellow skater Jason Ortolano described “Tatar is a goalie, does he even know how to skate? I bet he’s the first skater we pull out of a ditch.”  Regardless, Tatar looks forward to all of the challenges that lie ahead.  “We have the best possible group of individuals assembled, all working towards a great cause” commented Tatar.  “This is a great opportunity for my friends and I to do something to help others and have a lot of fun along the way, and I cannot wait.”

Lauren Foye, Captain

Lauren Foye has spent her entire life living in Boston and spending her summers on Cape Cod; an interesting combination for a die-hard Yankees fan. When asked to comment on her 21 years following the Yankees, Foye responded "Shut up Tatar, I am going to marry a Red Sox player, name my first son Fenway, and put a big green wall up in my backyard instead of a fence."

Both at home and on the road this summer, Foye's leadership, hard work, and managerial skills will be key to the success of RollingForAutism. Additionally, Foye's organizational skills have been compared to "a filing cabinet on steroids," and are necessary to the success of this project. When Tatar was asked where his sponsorship directory excel sheet was, Foye quickly responded "don’t ask him, he doesn’t even know where he parked his car last night." Foye then quickly retrieved the document. Standard.

Additionally, when asked about how she felt about her time consuming role as one of the leaders of RollingForAutism, Foye replied "it’s a joy and it keeps me busy. I also know its well worth every minute of my time to help kids who are in need of some fun at camp or a better education." Regardless, we are all very fortunate not only to have Foye on the RollingForAutism Team, but also as one of our captains.

John Switchenko

John is from Sturbridge, Massachusetts and spends his summers on Cape Cod where he works on the ferry to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. He attended Deerfield Academy and now studies English at Union. In addition to being a full time “big man on campus,” John volunteers for Big Brothers and Big Sisters. John was incredibly enthusiastic when approached with the project, saying “I really like the idea of being a part of something new. We can make a huge contribution and have a good time doing it our way.”

Lauren Brickman, Asst. Captain

Lauren Brickman, known to most as “brick” was born and raised in Long Island, New York as a die hard Yankees Fan. At a towering 4’11,” Lauren presents no threat to the Red Sox, the team she "despises," and longs for the day she hits a growth spurt. As one of the initial members of the RollingForAutism team, Lauren has and will continue to play a key role in the success of the project!

Lauren commented "My preliminary motivation to become involved in the project was the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life in a unique way, and of course, Dan Tatar’s good looks." While skating is not one of Lauren's specialties; as evident by a large dent suffered by a parked van and a matching dent on Lauren's left shin, Lauren's efforts will be seen elsewhere as she puts her heart and soul into anything she is a part of, and jumps at the opportunity to help others. The RollingForAutism Team is fortunate to have Lauren leading efforts to work with Autism Societies across the country and other members of the public to make this event a success. Lauren looks forward to meeting you and hopes you too will become a part of this amazing journey.
