How to Help

There are many ways you can help RollingForAutism! While donations will be put towards creating scholarships for schools and camps, we still need lots of help in other ways. Please consider donating your time, stories, or any other contributions you feel will allow this project to reach great heights.  Please scroll through the options below to see if any opportunities interest you.  We are also open to suggestions and any additional assistance you might be able to give us.  Please “leave a note” with your contact information and we will get back to you right away or click on the “contact the RollingForAutism team” at the bottom of this page.

Share your experience

Have you personally been impacted by Autism? Has a family member, a friend, or a child of yours lived with Autism? Or, have you run a marathon, climbed a mountain, or fought for a cause while raising money for that group?

If you have experience with these fundraisers, RollingForAutism wants to know. You can assist RollingForAutism, its team members, or its outreach so please share your experience.  We will gladly post stories that are inspirational and dear to our cause.  Please “leave a note” with your story.

Additionally, we are also looking for individuals to speak about their experiences at our events.  If you have an inspirational story and are comfortable sharing it with a crowd at a dinner or banquet, we'd love to hear from you.  Please contact us at the link below (contact the RollingForAutism team).

College fundraisers

RollingForAutism was started by a group of Union College Seniors, but has quickly spread to colleges, high schools, and universities across the country.  Why not get involved?  Is there a better way for your group of friends, sorority, fraternity, team, or club to make a difference than to raise money for a cause like Autism?

Here are some ideas…..

  • Table in your Campus Center looking for donations (publicize RollingForAutism) as well as selling merchandise
  • Bake Sale
  • Roll-a-thon
  • Beirut Tournament: Proceeds to go to RollingForAutism
  • Theme Party: on rollerblades, or asking for donations
  • Karaoke-ing for a cause: a sing and/or dance-off for RollingForAutism
  • Merchandise Sale: especially at major sporting events and big campus attractions

We would love to work with your group by assisting with fundraising ideas, allocating funds, providing merchandise, and supporting in any way possible.  In fact, we'd probably like to come and hang out at your event.  We're always up for a good time.  If your group is interested in working with our team, please contact us at the link below (contact the RollingForAutism team).

Please check out the "Our Friends" section of the website!

Plan an event for the trip through your hometown

Want to host a dinner, a cocktail party, a neighborhood rollerblade, or a team event when we roll through your neighborhood?  The hosting of events in cities across the country is one of the primary ways we intend to raise money and increase awareness for Autism.  We need contacts and help in every city we pass through.  Please help by planning an event; recruit people, rent out a restaurant or bar, seek donations…etc…it all will help raise money and awareness. Please help us with fun ideas for when we come to your town or state!  If you are interested in working with us to plan an event, please contact us at the link below please contact us at the link below (contact the RollingForAutism team).

We love to meet new people from across the country, and we hope to meet as many people as possible at each stop.  If you live in a city we are passing through and plan to come out to an event, please contact us by "leaving us a note."

Donate supplies

As broke college students we really need anything and everything for our trip!!  Before we get on the road we need tons of supplies.  We will need everything from hotel rooms to food to Band Aids to water.  It's going to be a long two months on the road, especially for our skaters.   If you can spare anything you think might help our cause; please send it our way.  Please contact us at the link below (contact the RollingForAutism team).

Meet and greet the team on the road

Do you feel an intimate connection with our cause? Do you have an autistic child of any age who would like to skate with us? Would you like to shake hands with boys who are skating 2,000 miles?

Please join us on our long journey up the Eastern seaboard.  We are hoping thousands of people will support our trip during the summer of 2007.  Come out and meet and mingle with us as we recover from each day’s hard work.

Also, consider holding an event at a local restaurant, bar or hall.  If you own a restaurant, donate one evening to our team and host a RollingForAutism event.  We appreciate all the help we can get, so please also think about a fundraising event while we roll through your town.

Host the skaters while en route

Every once and a while the skaters and their team—those working from and following in an RV, will need a real bed to sleep in (or a carpeted floor) and a hearty, home-cooked meal.  Imagine the possibilities that come with hosting our team!  If you provide us with a place to stay for the night, we guarantee we will provide you with some good laughs and a memorable time.   If you feel comfortable (and are brave enough) to feed and shelter a group of college students for the night (we truly are a classy bunch), please contact us at the link below (contact the RollingForAutism team)

Publicize RollingForAutism

Local media to national media! We want to spread the word about RollingForAutism.  Everyone in the nation should know we are rollerblading from Florida to Maine in the summer of 2007.  There are many ways to publicize our project, and whether it’s on a micro or macro level we appreciate every new person who learns about RollingForAutism.  By forwarding our website to your email address book, by calling a few friends, by explaining our goal to your family members, by telling your hairdresser about us, by running our plans by your church group—however you go about telling people about us is up to you! But, whomever you know you should tell.

We are a special team with an unbelievable goal; yet, we will only achieve great success with your personal connections.  Other ways of publicizing our event:

  • A letter campaign
  • A telethon
  • Writing an article in your local newspaper
  • Posting our website on your personal blog or website
