How will I know when the skaters are in my area?
First, check out the “Route” section of the website, which details our trip. Second, our event page has the dates and locations of all of our fundraising events. We hope to see as many people at all of our events as possible!
Will I be able to skate along with the skaters?
We encourage anyone and everyone to skate portions of the trip with us. That said, Rollerblading contains an element of danger and all of our skaters are of a fairly strong skating background and recognize when they should not be out on the road. If you feel confident in your skating ability, we would love to have some company on our some of our skates. However, please understand that your participation will be at your own risk. Rolling for Autism cannot be held responsible for participants that are not officially part of the RFA skating team.
Additionally, as we enter a city or town, we hope to have as many people with us as possible….skating, running, biking…heck, however you want to travel is cool with us. We will slow down our pace so kids, adults, and non skaters can keep up. The more noise we can make as we enter a town, the more awareness and money we will raise for this cause!
I want to attend an event, who should I contact?
Send us an email or leave us a note.
I am interested in hosting/coordinating an event in my city, how do I go about this?
Please waste no time and send us an email. We’ll probably give you a call soon after thanking you for the help.
How can I donate?
Click here to donate over the internet. Checks can also be sent to:

Can my donation result in a tax write off?
Yes! We are a 501c (3) organization. Your donations are tax deductible to the fullest extent allowed by law.
About the Trip
Where did the idea for this project come from?
The story goes that the idea for RollingForAutism was drummed up by Dan Tatar during a lunch break this past summer. Realizing that his college years were coming to an end and the “real world” was right around the corner, Tatar decided that he needed to take on one last adventure before settling down. Tatar picked up the phone and called Jason Ortolano with the idea of a cross country skate. The two retired hockey players viewed the trip as an opportunity to raise money for Autism and to have some fun on the road.
Figuring if we’re going to skate 2000 miles, we’re going to need some support, Tatar pitched the idea to Lauren Foye. Foye jumped at the opportunity to help! Foye quickly contacted Karl Helbig who was excited to help out in each and every way possible, especially by designing our website.
Jump ahead a month, and next thing you know…this two person cross country skate has turned into one of the largest, most exciting fundraising efforts ever developed by college students. To date, there are over 60 members on the RollingForAutism Team, countless businesses and corporations working with us around the clock to make this trip a success, and many people helping us in every fashion imaginable.
We are confident that RollingForAutism will continue to grow and grow. We are excited to have everyone onboard. At the end of the day, it is our goal to raise more money for scholarship opportunities than ever thought imaginable…and we are confident that we will achieve this lofty goal!
How are you training to rollerblade 2000 miles?
All of our skaters are former hockey players and therefore, should know how to skate (or so we hope). Our specific day to day routine will change as June approaches and training updates will be posted on the site. In the meantime, we are working hard with Cheryl Rockwood, our trainer to build our bodies into mean, lean 2000 mile skating machines!
Will you be taking any unique personal items on the trip?
Carson Strang: “I would have to say that the most unique item I will be taking on this trip would be my good luck undershirt. I’m not going to lie—it might smell up the RV (considering it has only been washed a handful of times and I have played hockey in it for years) but I’m sure it will bring good luck to all those involved in the trip.”
Who will benefit from your efforts?
Our goal is to setup as many scholarships as possible to be utilized by families and kids with Autism. The more money we can raise then the more people our efforts will benefit. Once the scholarships are created then they will be made available to families across the United States and Canada.
About the Team
Who are we?
We’re pretty much your run of the mill college students. To date, our team is mostly made up of members of the Union College Senior Class. We have athletes, frat brothers, geeks, sorority sisters, honor students, club members…all different types of people involved. Currently we have over 50 young adults on our team, and we have branched out to several colleges and high schools across the North East. Our team keeps growing every week and its been an amazing experience to get such enthusiastic and dedicated people involved.
